This video gives you an excellent example of the  process of scanning a child with the Starscanner.

An overview of the Starscanner system and conversations with physicians and therapists.
Here are some informative links and frequently asked questions.

Q:  Do I need a prescription for a scan and evaluation from the Short Hills Cranial Center:
A:  No,  just call for an appointment.

Q:  Do I need a prescription for a cranial remolding orthosis?
A:  Yes.  If you do not have a doctor, we will refer you to one in your area.

Q:  At what age should cranial remolding therapy start?
A: Any time between 3 and 18 months.

Q:  How long does cranial remolding therapy last once we are in a helmet?
A: Approximately 3-6 months but this may vary by patient and by age.

Q: Does tummy time really help?
A:  YES!  In many cases it does.  If your child is very young and you or your doctor notice a possible cranial deformity he may want you to try tummy time exercises.  A base line scan and a follow up scan are also good tools to have to see if there is any improvement.  Please refer to the repositioning guide above for more information on tummy time exercises.

Q:  How do I know if my insurance will cover this?
A: Give us your insurance information and we will contact them.  Every plan is different so there is no way to know unless we call. We will do all the precertification.  If there is an initial denial, we will do 1 appeal.

Q: How can you offer a 1 helmet guarantee for babies between the ages of 3-8 months?
A:  The Starband, being a full coverage helmet, can have the inner foam shaped anywhere inside the helmet.  As the head grows into the voids in the helmet, we continue to shape the inside.  Open helmets do not allow for these kinds of adjustments.

Q: Will my doctor and/or therapist be made aware of my child's progress with cranial remolding orthosis therapy?
A:  Yes.  We will provide them with detailed scan data and photos after every visit so they may update your chart.

Would you like to decorate your child's helmet for a fraction of the cost of custom artwork?  This is a great resource.
